State Representative Dave Winters a ‘Green Republican’
March 18th, 2008
State Representative Dave Winters spoke at a press conference regarding Environment Illinois Tuesday, March 18th, at the Burpee Museum of Natural History. Gary Anderson (representing the American Institute of Architecture) Tracy Wax (representing Environment Illinois) and Winters all spoke about energy standards and energy policies.
Environment Illinois focuses on protecting Illinois’ air, water, and open spaces. Winters said that we not only need to be interested in environmental policy, but also all energy policy. Anderson saidleadership roles need to be taken to bring our concerns to the forefront.
Environmental Illinois is calling on the General Assembly to make Illinois homes more efficient. The American Institute of Architecture is working on incorporating efficient construction methods into their buildings at no additional cost.
“Energy efficiency savings will greatly enrich our community in the long term,” Anderson said.
Mandating energy standards would help Illinois, which is far behind Iowa and Wisconsin. Representative Winters has made a commitment to updating Illinois’ energy policies.
“I stand here today not only a Republican, but also a green Republican,” Winters said. There are many conserving ideas that anyone can implement, that cost little, but return much to a family’s checkbook.
